Best work boots I've ever owned., December 4, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Bates Men's Delta-8 Side Zip Work Boot (Apparel) After much use they've become soft and supple. The side zipper is what makes them the best I've ever worn to work. I've had others just as comfortable but this feature does make a big difference. They've also proven very durable given the sort of abuse I've dealt on these guys. Very recommended and well worth the money
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful TUFF TUFF TUFF, April 18, 2011 Love the boots. Great with the zipper+lace. Good fit, true to sizing. They really protect your feet well. I found this out for myself on a stormy day last week. My 1,100 Quarter Horse mount uncharacteristically spooked, jumped sideways into me and landed on my left foot with a large head nailed shoe. I felt it but the boot took the brunt of the hit and most likely saved me a lot of pain. Highly recommend them!

I own Bates lightweight combat boots from my time in the Marines, but brown isn't in the dress code, so I went looking for something in black. These boots certainly do the job, and they seem durable.
On the downside, they feel a clunky and unwieldy even after being broken in, and certain spots tend to pinch or rub a bit after wearing them for extended periods of time. Part of this may be due to the zipper design; while convenient, the zipper makes the boot heavier, more rigid, and seems to add pressure points that can cause the aforementioned discomfort (at least for me).
I've owned several other Bates combat boots in various styles and they were fantastic. These simply don't live up to my past experiences. These boots are certainly servicable to a point, but for extended use as a patrol boot I might consider some other options. In retrospect I would have dropped a little more on a... Read more
